VIRUSES AND ANTIBIOTICS

Children of preschool and school age:

• They suffer from 8-10 viruses per year and rarely from microbial infections
• Consequently, antibiotics are used recklessly, leading to their shortage
• For streptococcus treatment do not panic !! There is a margin of days to start antibiotic treatment to avoid its later complications
• In an acute otitis media there is a margin of at least 2 days for the initiation of antibiotics
• Amoxicillin remains the most simple-right choice for the most common microbial respiratory infections in children.

Therefore, broad-spectrum antibiotics are NOT recommended because they cause more side effects and increase the resistance of microbes.
In the majority of 80-90% cases, the infections are viral and only hydration, antipyretics, diet and rest are recommended.
