CHILDHOOD TONSILLITIS: SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

Tonsillitis often occurs in children aged 3-15 years and is caused by either viruses or bacteria. It is important to know the symptoms and treatment methods to best care for your child.

Symptoms of tonsillitis:

– Severe sore throat that makes swallowing difficult.

– Fever that may be accompanied by chills.

– Red, swollen tonsils with possible white plaques.

– Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

– Bad breath and hoarse voice.

Treatment of tonsillitis:

– Rest and adequate hydration: Ensure that your child drinks plenty of fluids and gets enough rest.

– Analgesics and antipyretics: Use them with the advice of your doctor for pain and fever relief.

– Antibiotics: They are only given if the cause is bacterial, such as streptococcus.

– Warm drinks and soft foods: Reduce irritation and make swallowing easier.

Advice: If your child has recurring episodes of tonsillitis, it is a good idea to consult your pediatrician for a possible referral to an ENT specialist. Frequent tonsillitis in children aged 5-10 years may lead to the need for further evaluation and possibly tonsillectomy.
