5 EASY WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR CHILDREN'S EATING HABITS

The American Academy of Pediatrics reminds 5 easy ways to improve the eating habits of your children and your family as a whole:

Don't skip breakfast

We hear it often, but it's true: breakfast is the most important meal of the day! However, almost half of families skip it regularly. Breakfast has been associated with better memory, higher school performance, more ideal body weight and improved overall nutrition.

Always have healthy snacks on hand

Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are great snacks for kids when they're hungry. Snacks can support, or even enhance, your child's overall healthy eating plan if you have the right foods on hand.

Watch your portions

Overeating is easy when there is too much on the plate. Make sure you know the correct portion size for each food. If in doubt consult your pediatrician.

Eat together as a family

Eating meals together can help everyone eat healthier, is a fun way to explore new foods together, and a great time for family conversations!

Keep family meals media-free.

Eating in front of a screen can lead to overeating. Mealtime is an important time for family conversations and sharing the day's experiences without technology getting in the way.

Remember

Beyond general dietary guidelines, each child is unique and eating habits may vary according to the needs of each organism. Be sure to discuss your child's nutritional profile with the pediatrician, express any concerns or questions, and ask for personalized recommendations.
