NEWBORN AND SENSORY-MOTORIC EDUCATION

A very important part (if not the most important) of the first days of a newborn's life is his sensory-motor education. This motor alphabet that is mastered at this age and later develops and enriches, constitutes the fundamental foundation on which the skills of daily life, the skills for work and leisure will be based.

Prone Position or Tummy Time

The more prone from birth the better. Initially on the mother's body (skin to skin). Then, on the floor or a hard mattress, with stimuli throughout the range of head movement (mirror, colors, toys, sounds - music preferably jazz and classical).

Thus (in this way):

  • The development of positional plagiocephaly (“flat head”) is prevented
  • The muscles of the trunk, neck, upper and lower extremities are strengthened.
  • Motor development milestones (motor skills) are accelerated
  • He is trained visually.
  • The gastrointestinal system matures.

Sleep

→ Semi-lateral or back to avoid SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

→ Right-left and head-foot position changes

→ Back

→ Sounds, stimuli, colors, games on the palms for better development of fine motor skills.

Breastfeeding

Alternating sides, arms and hugs, NO baby carriers, relaxers, walkers and other "supports", which slow down psychomotor development and affect muscle tone and hips.
