PRENATAL PEDIATRIC CONSULTATION

  • Complete study and support of the nutrition of each infant-child according to its age and needs.

  • Assessment and guidance of the overweight/obese or underweight child.

Good nutrition is the cornerstone of good health for children of all ages. As childhood is a busy time of learning around food - with the development of feeding skills, communication through food, preferences and appetite regulation - our team recognize how important it is to have guidance available for all parents and caregivers of infants and young children. When and how often to feed your baby, when to start solid foods, how to manage a toddler with a picky diet, how to set a good foundation of eating habits for school-aged children and teenagers! These are just some of the questions we are often asked to answer.

Positive experience in early childhood persists throughout adulthood and shapes attitudes, beliefs and behavior about food. Using positive reinforcement strategies helps to strengthen this all-important good relationship with food. Starting with an understanding of the unique nutritional history of each child and family, our practice offers nutritional assessment and guidance to parents and children from birth to adolescence. This includes individual needs for age and sex, dietary intake and nutrient profile, along with an understanding of growth and feeding history. For children with complex feeding needs, e.g. extreme food refusal and/or severe growth retardation, guidance and/or collaboration with other health professionals is offered.
