WHAT IS CONSIDERED A FEVER IN CHILDREN?

Fever in children is a common phenomenon that can cause concern for parents. It is important to understand what a fever is, what the normal temperature range is for children, and how environmental factors can affect it. A fever is a body temperature that rises above what is considered normal. Normal temperature in children ranges between 36 and 37.2 C (affected by exercise, ambient temperature, clothing, time of day)

→ Raised temperature: 37.2 to 38 C               

→ Fever: over 38 C

How is it measured?

→ On the dry armpit with a digital thermometer

→ Three consecutive measurements in a half-naked child

What do we give?

  • Paracetamol (Depon) half of the child's weight in ml e.g. in a child 10kgr – 5 ml Depon, in a child 12kgr- 6 ml Depon
  • Ibuprofen (algofren) ⅓ of the child's weight in ml, e.g. for a child of 10 kg - 3.3 ml of algofren, for a child of 12 kg 4 ml of algofren 
  • ALGOFREN in infants over 6 months
  • Alternate Depon-Algofren every 3-4 hours in fever over 38 C
  • Between high fever warm compresses
  • Plenty of fluids
  • Light diet
  • Light clothes

 

⊗ No cold water cold baths

⊗ No rubbing alcohol

When do we contact you?

  •  infant under three months
  • hemorrhagic rashes i.e. rashes that do not go away do not whiten even momentarily with pressure
  • high fever over 40
  • severe headache with stiff neck; 
  • inability to feed hydration
  • lethargy lethargy even in the intervals when the child was not taken by you
  • difficulty breathing
  • severe abdominal pain
  • fever for more than 48 to 72 hours
  • in any concern you suspect that something is not right with your child
